We are delighted to welcome Rebecca Harris MP for a fascinating talk about her role as Comptroller of the Household and a government whip. She will discuss the secrets of the whips office as well as her unique position triaging between different institutions of state, particularly during the funeral of her late Majesty, the Queen.

Tickets for the evening are £35 per person. Tickets for Young Conservatives (under 26 years of age) are £25 each.

Comptroller of the Household

Rebecca Harris MP

Rebecca Harris was elected the Conservative Member of Parliament for Castle Point in May 2010. She was appointed Government Whip (Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury) in January 2018. She was later elevated to Assistant Government Whip. She has also served as a PPS in the Northern Ireland Office, and the Communities and Local Government Office.

In July 2022, Rebecca became Comptroller of the Household, an ancient position in the British royal household that interfaces between different parts of the British state. The Comptroller was an ex officio member of the Board of Green Cloth, until that body was abolished in the reform of local government licensing in 2004. In recent times, a senior government whip has invariably occupied the office. On state occasions, the Comptroller (in common with certain other senior officers of the Household) carries a white staff of office as often seen in portraits.
