Prospective MP Tim Barnes reflects on the social media storm surrounding the exchange between the Met Police and Gideon Falter, an anti-semitism campaigner called 'openly Jewish'.
Tim says
"There's been a lot on social media over the last 24 hours about the Met Police, and their not one, but two, apologies for comments that followed an incident at a protest where a man was asked to remove himself from the scene for being “openly Jewish”.
"It shouldn't be the job of any citizen going about their everyday business that their rights to free movement are curtailed purely because of who they are or what they might represent.
"It's the job of the police to intervene, to make sure that their rights are protected.
"Now, the truth is that whilst this has been a very difficult time for the police officer concerned and for the Met Police, it's not the officers that I think are responsible for this or should be held up for criticism or blame.
"It's the culture that has been put into the Metropolitan Police that I am most concerned about, and the man who's responsible for that culture and ultimately responsible for everything that's to do with the Met is Sadiq Khan.
"So if you think that the culture is wrong, Sadiq Khan needs to go as the Head of the Met Police.
"If you think the problem is there aren't enough police, then Sadiq Khan needs to go because he's the one who's responsible and the Head ultimately of the Met Police.
"indeed, if there's anything that you think that is wrong with crime and the way that the police approaches it, the responsibility lies with Sadiq Khan. He has to go."
