Meeting the next Prime Minister Series of Events

The Cities of London & Westminster Conservative Association were pleased to welcome the shortlisted candidates for the future leadership of our party and our nation to a series of events run last week as an opportunity to introduce them to our members.

At our ‘Meet the next Prime Minister’ event held on the evening of Monday 15th August, Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss and former Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, met with Association members at a one-of-a-kind gathering. We are thrilled that the Two Cities blazed the way as the only Association anywhere in the UK to hold an event with both candidates on the same night.

The evening started with a Prosecco and orange juice drinks reception followed by canapes, wraps, sandwiches and assorted nibbles. Guests were then treated to individual speeches from the candidates about their vision for the party and the country more broadly going forward. Ms Truss and Mr Sunak spoke passionately about how they intended to resolve the issues of our day. After their speeches, members posed questions to them on their policies, respective track records and the issues and challenges affecting London and the UK.

Following on from the speeches and Q&A sessions, Liz and Rishi took the time to personally meet and greet Two Cities’ members; shaking their hands, taking photos with them and answering individual questions. This event provided an excellent opportunity for CLWCA members to meet Britain’s next premier and to have a one-to-one interaction with them.

We are thrilled with the reception that the occasion had from our membership. Within two hours of going on-sale, the event had completely sold out. We welcomed over a hundred eager guests to a lovely evening, which facilitated great opportunities for networking, as well as socialising. By popular demand, the CLWCA then ran a subsequent event for members to meet Rishi one-on-one, and hear him speak. We are pleased to say that this also sold out. An invitation for a Liz-only event has also been sent to Ms Truss too.

Talking about the success of the event, Association Chair, James Spencer said:

The fact that we are the only Association running an event of this kind is testament to the things we can do. Liz and Rishi were fantastic sports with our members.
