Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, reflected on 2023 in her year in review.
Nickie explained,
"I can't quite believe we are already looking to 2024.
"The last year has certainly been memorable. Putin's senseless invasion of Ukraine has continued, and we've seen terror in Israel and war in Gaza. But we also celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, as well as our London Underground turning 160 years old.
"In Parliament, I have continued working on our priorities. I want to reflect and share some of the work that I campaigned on.
"We secured our pedicabs Bill. It's currently making its way through Parliament and will arrive in the Commons early in the new year.
"I launched my plan to make the Two Cities safer. Thousands of you responded to my survey, shaping the plan and sharing your priorities for the police. Thank you to everyone who had their say. I will continue to work with our police forces in the new year.
"We saved our buses from the Mayor's cuts. After our campaign, routes 4, 16, and 24 were saved, and I will continue to work with you to save the 211, our hospital bus.
"I was delighted the Government brought leasehold reforms. The Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill will make a real difference to the thousands of leaseholders across the Two Cities and I am proud to have launched my Two Cities Leasehold Working Group so that this legislation reflects your concerns and experiences.
"The Renters Reform Bill continued through Parliament and I sat on its Committee to scrutinise this legislation line by line to ensure it reflects your experiences and concerns.
"We won the Government's backing for our short-term lets register. The consultation opened this year and the responses are being looked into. I am pushing for its implementation as swiftly as possible.
"I launched my campaign for a simple but safe professional cycling app. Delivery companies have a responsibility to ensure their riders are safe, and I'm working with Deliveroo, Getir, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, as well as cycling charity Bikeability and courier company Pedal Me to implement our project.
"And, I grew the list of companies signing up to the Fertility Workplace Pledge. There are now 50 companies signed up, making a difference to support their employees and raising awareness of fertility treatment.
"Thank you for all your support over the last year.
"I wish you all a very happy and peaceful festive season. Here's to 2024!"
