Local people have been in touch with Conservative Prospective MP over plans to site the Holocaust Memorial in Victoria Tower Gardens.
Tim supports the principle of a memorial, but believes that Victoria Tower Gardens is not the right place for it. He explained,
My name is Tim Barnes, and I'm standing to be the next MP here in the Cities of London and Westminster.
Behind me is Parliament and next to it, Victoria Tower Gardens, one of the local parks that people use every day.
It's also the site that is proposed by some for a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust.
This is an excellent cause and there should definitely be a memorial in central London.
But I'm afraid I don't believe that this is the right location.
It's not good in terms of national security and for the security of the memorial itself.
It's not good in terms of the costs, and it's not good in terms of the local consultation.
It's the right idea to have a memorial. But this isn't the place to put it.
