Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, is very aware that so many people are concerned about the growing cost of living.
Whilst no Government can solve the particularly complex and global challenge of inflation, Nickie welcomes the Chancellor’s £15 billion package of support to help families across the Two Cities with rising costs and their energy bills.
Measures set out mean that:
- The vast majority of households will receive £550 through the £150 council tax rebate and the doubling of the energy bills cash grant to £400.
- A pensioner household will receive £300 through the additional Winter Fuel Payment, £400 from the energy bills cash grant and £150 from the council tax rebate – totalling £850.
- The most vulnerable households will, overall, receive support totalling at least £1,200 including a £650 one-off payment, £400 from the energy bills cash grant and £150 from the council tax rebate.
The latest announcement builds on £22 billion of measures that the government has already announced, bringing the total support for households this year to £37 billion. This targeted support will help those most in need whilst the boosted cash grant of £400 will support families across the board who need support with their bills. Although Nickie does welcome the package of support, she also hopes we will soon see a range of economic stimulants to grow the economy and that we see business and personal taxes reduced sooner rather than later.
