Adopting the right transport policy is crucial. Boosting London’s connectivity with other parts of the UK is also vital. Our city benefits when it is better connected. Transport infrastructure projects must aim to deliver increased connectivity alongside predictable costs.
“I agree with the government that connecting our city to our other major population centre in the North is absolutely crucial” stated Tony Devenish West Central Assembly Member on the government’s transport policy. “It is good for London to be better connected and I welcome the Transport Secretary’s efforts to make this happen.”
“However, I strongly believe that HS2 is not the most effective way of doing this”, continued Tony. “I cannot justify HS2’s spiralling costs. Its projected costs have risen from an initial estimate in 2015 of £56bn to a total of £106bn this year. This nearly 100% increase in costs is clearly unacceptable.”
There are many much better alternative projects which boosts our city’s connectivity. Projects like Crossrail 2 that would connect the London’s south- eastern suburbs with the City and reduce congestion on the Tube. Crossrail 2 would deliver better value for money and improve London’s connectedness.
Tony added, “I believe that we have got to focus on those infrastructure projects whose costs are not out of control. We must prioritise those projects which are genuinely beneficial for our city.”
