St James's Ward Councillors have arranged for joint operations between the police, local street wardens and the Council’s noise team to tackle the loud street performers in Leicester Square, Covent Garden and the surrounding areas, who seriously disturb both residents and businesses throughout the day and night. As a result, many noise abatement notices have been served and after further breaches, amplifying equipment has been seized.
Officers are also exploring the option of using anti-social behaviour enforcement legislation or injunctions against the most persistent offenders. "Even those who live and work in the very heart of our City need some peace and quiet," says Cllr Louise Hyams "and your St. James's Ward Councillors are determined to ensure that our residents' quality of life is not affected by such loud, persistent and intrusive noise".
London is a noisy city and your ward councillors work hard on your behalf to help keep noise in check. Over the years your Councillors have spent a large proportion of the ward budget on noise issues and have paid for a noise-control officer to work exclusively in St. James's Ward.
