Warwick Ward Councillors have been working with London Underground for nearly two years to resolve problems with noise from the Victoria Line, which has been disturbing residents in parts of Warwick Ward. The noise is caused by wear and tear on the tube lines. The rough surfaces have to be shaved off through a process known as 'grinding'. This is part of standard maintenance and can reduce noise from the rails. Residents have contacted us as they are particularly concerned about being disturbed when the Night Tube is introduced later this year.
We are delighted that, following our lobbying alongside a group of well-organised and determined residents, sections of the Victoria Line are now expected to undergo grinding of the rails every 3-4 months rather than 12-18 previously, starting this month. London Underground has obtained additional equipment which will allow them to undertake more frequent grinding across the network. We hope that this will help reduce the noise coming from the rails.
