Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, attended the launch of Westminster Works, a fantastic initiative bringing together the private and public sectors to encourage more people to take up a career in the hospitality sector.
Partners include Westminster City Council, the GLA, New West End Company, Knightsbridge Partnership BID, and UK Hospitality.
Over 80 bars, restaurants, hotels, casinos, and other hospitality venues have already signed up for the scheme which hopes to secure at least 400 employers and over 2000 jobs by 2024. It was clear from the jobs fair after the launch event that employers and job seekers were keen to ensure this initiative is a success.
It was a great opportunity for Nickie to catch up with UK Hospitality CEO, Kate Nicholls, Westminster City Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Geoff Barraclough, as well as a host of employers including Michelin star restaurant, A Wong, top hotels including The Berkeley, The Connaught Claridge’s and world-renowned Fortnum & Mason all looking for people to join their teams.
Hospitality is a brilliant career for people of all ages. Whether starting your working life or wanting a part-time job once you’ve retired there are so many different jobs to consider. Bar work, waiting, front of house, chef, sommeliers, the list is endless. And pay and conditions have certainly improved.
