We spoke with Cities of London & Westminster MP Nickie about the increase in hajj-related fraud and what steps are being taken to combat it.
Nickie explained,
"On a recent visit to the City of London police, I met with Commander Khan, who told me about the work he's doing on Hajj-related fraud. Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia that all Muslims must try to undertake, and we have thousands of British Muslims going on Hajj every year. But sadly, they have been targeted with fraud on travel, visas and when they are actually staying in Saudi Arabia.
"But Commander Khan, the British government, Birmingham Trading Standards and others have been working very hard to try and highlight the fraud that people need to be aware of.
"I am delighted that I have secured an adjournment debate in the House of Commons Chamber this Friday to highlight Hajj-related fraud and hopefully ensure that people are aware of the pitfalls and what to look out for. And hear the government on how they are protecting British Muslims from Hajj-related fraud."
