Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, spoke out in a House of Commons debate to champion the critical role of carers, not just in the Two Cities, but across the country.
During the debate, Nickie reflected and recognised the immense contribution and work of the 5.7 million carers, including 800,000 young carers in our country. Nickie paid tribute to every single carer and spoke about her own experience caring for her father and the respectful and loving care he received whilst at a care home.
The Government has made huge steps to support carers, especially unpaid carers, with the Carers Leave Act, backed by the Government, putting in law one week of unpaid leave a year. Support is also available, including the Carer’s Allowance. Find out more here.
