Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, spoke out in a Westminster Hall debate to call for the reintroduction of tax free shopping for international visitors.
International visitors are the lifeblood of so many businesses in the Two Cities, especially in areas such as Knightsbridge and the West End.
And it's our world-class shopping offering that draws huge numbers of international visitors to our streets, supporting the thousands of people employed in the retail sector, and spending in our local shops whilst they're here.
The Government is committed to supporting retail businesses of all sizes, but the one piece missing from the puzzle is tax-free shopping for international visitors.
It isn't a tax cut for foreign visitors, but a way to boost their spending here in our neighbourhoods as they go on to visit our local coffee shops, world-beating theatreland, or pop in and support some of our incredible small, independent businesses.
