Many residents in Bryanston and Dorset Square don’t need to be told of the problems which come from landlords letting properties for under three months which is normally breaking planning law. Visitors who chose not to use our area’s hotels do not know how to dispose of rubbish and often dump waste on the street. Recent arrests and convictions spear-headed by Councillor Lindsay Hall have highlighted the additional problem of widespread housing benefit fraud in the short-letting activities round the Edgware Road. Suspect claims for benefits have been withdrawn as a result, saving hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money.
Cllr Audrey Lewis has developed a plan with Cllr Heather Acton in Hyde Park ward to ensure that we continue to tackle these problems and your councillors have agreed to join with Hyde Park to allocate Ward Budgets to part fund a team of four specialist enforcement officers to enable the good work to continue. Let us know where you think it is taking place – we are meeting with residents in blocks to let them know how they can contribute to ridding their homes of the un-neighbourly nuisance.
