Your Conservative Councillors want the very best for the West End. We want to secure its success as a unique destination for visitors, a world class place to do business and as a home for residents to enjoy the highest quality of life. To ensure we can achieve that and to overcome the challenges that managing the West End faces we recognise that we need new solutions and new ideas.
That is why the Council has set up set up an independent Commission to carry out this task. The commission is chaired by Sir Howard Bernstein, the chief executive of Manchester City Council, and 14 Commissioners who have been nominated to represent a wide range of expertise and interested groups, including residents. They are collecting evidence at the moment and reported their findings in March 2013.
Your three St. James's Ward Councillors have regularly met the commissioners and have expressed to them the importance of maintaining the correct balance between the conflicting interests of business and tourism and the needs of our residents. Councillors Louise Hyams and Cameron Thomson say: "We really value your views on the West End."
