There was an interesting article in the City AM written by Matthew Lesh on the use of e-scooters. Reflecting on the article Tony said, “While I am not entirely convinced by the arguments made, I am certain that we need to have a proper debate about the use of e-scooters.”
The article points out that making more extensive use of electric scooters could reduce congestion and C02 emissions. More people using e-scooters to commute to work and move about the city could reduce the city’s emissions considerably. It also highlights the fact that statistically e-scooters are safer than other more accepted forms of transport such as bicycles.
Tony observed that, “I do have concerns about the use of e-scooters, particularly with their safety on public roads. However, Lesh’s article makes a number of valid points. I believe that we should be open-minded and take a fact based approached to their use. We ought to have a proper debate about the merits of their greater use.”
