The Conservative petition to save the Post Office received over 2000 signatures.
A number developers could not ignore. As a direct result of our petition, In April, developers offered the Post Office a prime new location on Queensway. The update this month is that the Postmaster is reviewing the design proposals to ensure they meet the criteria for customer service and disabled access. Once this is approved, a public consultation will go out.
We encountered strong resistance from the local Labour team to our petition, they asked residents not to sign it, complained to the Postmaster and criticised our efforts on social media. This was disappointing, as we knew how important the Post Office is to residents. My 89 year old mother was devastated when she heard there was a possibility it would close. We are pleased however that Labour’s political attacks didn’t deter our wonderful community from signing our petition.
