Food and grocery delivery companies have a responsibility to ensure their riders are safe and ride appropriately on the road.
That’s why Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, is calling on delivery companies to work with her and cycling organisations to establish a simple but safe professional cycling certificate.
Nickie has heard from local people about delivery cyclists skipping red lights, going the wrong way down one-way streets, and riding on pavements. There have been so many near misses, and unlike van and HGV drivers, delivery cyclists - who are working professionally - do not need to go through any sort of training. Let Nickie know your views and experiences of delivery cyclists here.
Keeping the pressure up on the campaign, Nickie sat down with representatives from Pedal Me, Just Eat, Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Getir, as well as cycling organisations Bikeability and Cycling UK to discuss how we can improve delivery cyclist safety. It was a positive discussion, and Nickie will hold them to account to ensure their riders are safe.
Have you noticed one jumping a red light? Have you had a near miss with one? Please let Nickie know your views and experiences of delivery cyclists by taking her survey.
