We are delighted to welcome Nigel Huddleston, Conservative MP for Droitwich and Evesham, Party Chairman and former Financial Secretary to the Treasury, as our guest of honour at our Pimlico Political Lunch on Monday 25 November.
A former management consultant with Arthur Andersen and Deloitte, Nigel worked at Google as the Industry Head of Travel, before his election in May 2015. Under Prime Minister Theresa May, Nigel served as PPS in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) before becoming Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party, with particular responsibility for engaging young people. Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed him as Assistant Government Whip.
Under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Nigel served as a Minister in DCMS, as a Government Whip, as a Minister in the Departments for International Trade and for Business & Trade, before joining the Treasury Team. Earlier this month, Nigel was appointed Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party by Party Leader Kemi Badenoch. Nigel said
I am deeply honoured to have been appointed Co-chair of the Conservative Party and to serve in Kemi Badenoch's Shadow Cabinet. Having been a committed Conservative party member since the 1980s—starting as an activist and councillor, then an MP and progressing through various roles in government—this appointment feels especially meaningful. It’s both a privilege and a responsibility to serve in this capacity as we prepare for the upcoming local elections and beyond. My aim is to engage with members, re-energise our organization and campaigning capability, help unite the party, and renew our offering and our policies in order to become an election-winning organisation again. Meanwhile I will also play a part in holding this government to account and running specific campaigns on issues that I know are important to my constituents and people across the country. We’ve got lots of work to do, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Always an engaging speaker, you can get a flavour of Nigel's personality via this short Youtube interview. You can find out more about him on his website.
