Resistance led by residents and supported by Vincent Square Ward Councillors Danny Chalkley, David Harvey and Steve Summers has limited licensed activity on the Rootstein Hopkins Parade Chelsea College of Art. Residents and Councillors opposed the license application because of fears that many events throughout the year would destroy local peace and quiet with large evening events accompanied by music and late night lighting.
The College has been limited to 15 events, with strict limits on the levels of lighting and noise.
Cllr David Harvey said “Ideally we would have liked no extra events at all, but equally we all recognise that the College needs to use the parade ground and could have applied for over 20 individual event licenses. With this licence we can all keep a close control on these events and enforce rapidly against breaches which disturb residents; hopefully the College can also develop effective dialogue with residents so that there are no problems for local people."
