Victoria Street and the area in front of the station are undergoing major redevelopments that will have a dramatic influence on the area for decades to come. Many of the Government departments have been demolished. In their place are coming new offices, extra transport facilities, more shops and further residential buildings.
By the end of the decade there will be hundreds more residents living in the area between Victoria Station and Buckingham Palace. Councillor Tim Mitchell says: "Whilst we welcome the changes, we know that existing residents will have to put up with the inevitable disruption that will occur. That is why we are in regular contact with the developers to make sure that any problems are ironed out as soon as possible. For example, I am glad to report after extensive lobbying by myself and my St James's ward colleagues a new supermarket will be opening next to City Hall in the first half of 2013".
