Like all of you, we were shocked and upset by the barbaric murder of Hani Abou El Kheir last Sunday. We want to take this opportunity to let you know what's been happening since then, and to tell you what the City Council is doing to tackle drug crime in Pimlico.
First, the priority must be to catch the criminals responsible and we are doing everything we can to assist the police. As of Thursday, one arrest has already been made, but the police enquiry continues. If you have any information which could help, please call the incident room on 0208 345 3715, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you want to be anonymous.
Second, we must beat the drug dealers who have started to operate in our area. Westminster's new Borough Commander Alison Newcomb is holding a public meeting with Cllr Nickie Aiken, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Community Protection on Thursday 7th February at 6.30pm. The meeting will take place at Churchill Gardens Hall, Churchill Gardens. We hope you can join us to discuss policing resources and youth services in Pimlico.
Third, we continue to work hard to stop our young people becoming involved in drugs or gangs. We set up a special gangs unit to co-ordinate efforts to keep young people in Pimlico out of danger, and continue to review all the work we do with young people to make sure it is as effective as it can possibly be.
As local residents, we know what a great place Pimlico is to live. We are determined that it should stay that way, and will continue to update you over the coming year.
